Earth’s Climate: Current State, Causes, and Solutions

The Current State of Climate Change

The Earth is facing unprecedented climate changes in history. Global temperatures are rising, sea levels are rising, and extreme weather events such as storms, floods, and droughts are becoming more frequent and intense. These changes not only affect the natural environment but also seriously threaten human lives and socio-economic development globally.

The clearest evidence is the significant increase in the global average temperature over the past century. Scientific reports show that the global average temperature has increased by about 1 degree Celsius compared to the pre-industrial period, and this trend continues.

Causes of Climate Change

The main cause of climate change is the greenhouse effect. Human activities, especially the burning of fossil fuels (coal, oil, and natural gas) for energy production, industry, and transportation, have released large amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. These gases, including carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and nitrous oxide (N2O), trap heat in the atmosphere, causing the Earth to warm up.

In addition, deforestation also contributes significantly to climate change. Trees play an important role in absorbing CO2 from the atmosphere. Deforestation reduces the ability to absorb CO2, leading to increased greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere.

Other factors:

  • Livestock farming
  • Agricultural production
  • Land use change

Solutions to Address Climate Change

To address climate change, there needs to be a collective effort from all of society, from governments and businesses to individuals. Some important solutions include:

  • Reducing greenhouse gas emissions: Switching to renewable energy (solar, wind, geothermal energy…), increasing energy efficiency, developing sustainable transportation.
  • Protecting and restoring forests: Planting more trees, protecting existing forests, preventing deforestation.
  • Developing sustainable agriculture: Using environmentally friendly farming methods, reducing the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides.
  • Adapting to climate change: Building early warning systems for natural disasters, investing in climate-resilient infrastructure.
  • Raising public awareness: Promoting education to raise public awareness of climate change and the role of each person in protecting the environment.

Climate change is a global challenge that requires close international cooperation. Countries need to work together to share experiences, technologies, and resources to effectively address climate change and protect the future of the planet.
